Artist Statement

Iris completed her BA (Hons) Degree in Art , 2012 at I.T Carlow (Wexford Campus) and graduated with a 1st Class honours degree. In 2012 she received an emerging artist award from Wexford County Council and Studio Nine and completed a three month residency with exhibition. Iris see's herself as an Interdisciplinary Artist moving across painting, photography, film and community based arts.
With a growing interest in Adult and Community education , brought forward from her engagement with her community based learning during her degree. Iris completed a HDip at the National University of Ireland (Maynooth) in 2013. During this time Iris taught art in the VEC Gorey and young offenders prison Dublin.
Iris aims to capture the least obvious characteristics of her surroundings within urban and rural locations, whilst also exploring and bringing to the viewer unseen and unnoticed aspects of these places. Iris also likes to use the elements of light and shade to maximum effect, and this is reflected in her work. She feels that both the realistic and at times semi-abstract aspects of her work also combine to give the work its overall interest. Iris’s work is always informed by location.
