Degree Show 'More Diverse than Universal' 24th May, 2012
Our Final Year Degree Show was held in the Wexford Arts Centre, Wexford Town in May. This show apply titled, showcased the work of twenty two emerging artists . The work was both varied and exciting. Artist Brian Maguire opened the show who praised each artists work. My work in the exhibition was a mix of Experimental filming, Documentary filming and painting.
The experimental film 'Honey combed wedge sole, route 66, no upper' focused on debris washed up on our shoreline, with the focus on odd shoes. I photographed these items in situ and then filmed whilst walking in the odd shoes, meandering through the water. The narrative was based on a descriptive list of items found or lost! I also included an installation 'Catch of the Day', a shopping trolley filled of all debris items I collected whilst walking the beaches of the South East Coastline.
The documentary film 'An Cruidin' (Kingfisher) was a continuation of previous shot footage of a sailing cot being built by four local men in Maudlintown. In collaboration with the men and Murt Flynn (Southend FRC co-ordinator), further filming took place and we editied the footage to produce the final peice. It is a great record for the community to have and a fantastic project to work on.
The third piece 'Virtual World' an acrylic painting on board 166 x122 cm was based on the cover of a fairytale book by the childrens writer Hans Christian Andersen's.
